How to reach ooty?

Road/Self Drive

This is the preferred way to reach ooty. You will drive through some reserved forests and you will see some stunning scenery on the way to ooty.

You can also rent a car in Coimbatore and drive to ooty. Try to opt for full insurance for the car so that you don’t have to worry about the damages.

By Train

The nearest railway station is Mettupalyam. It is 40 kilometres from Ooty.

I would recommend you to try in "The Nilgiri Mountain Railway toy train" atleast once. You will be mesmerized for sure by enjoying the serene nature and dense forests.

• The 56136/Mettupalayam-Ooty MG Passenger train departs Mettupalayam at 7.10 a.m and arrives in Ooty at 12.00 p.m

• the 56137/Ooty-Mettupalayam MG Passenger train leaves Ooty at 2 p.m. and reaches Mettupalayam at 5.35 p.m.

Pricing details for Toy train

The adult train fare is 205 rupees in first class and 30 rupees in second class for one way. The difference between first and second class is that fist class have some seat cushions and less seats.

By Air

Coimbatore is the nearest domestic airport from Ooty which is approximately 88 kms from ooty.

Day 1

Visit Government Botanical Garden

Plan to choose the stay location near Ooty Bustand. This is the city’s center.

Government Botanical Garden

It is a well maintained Government botanical gardens spread over an area of 55 acres.

You can see Fossil Tree trunk which is twenty million years old and enjoy the cool breeze and the gardens, flowers, Exotic species, herbs etc.

Timings: 7:00 am to 6:30 pm

The Tea Factory and The Tea Museum

Visit this of you are a tea lover. You can see the tea making process and you can buy some exotic varieties of tea.

Timings: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Doddabetta Peak

This is the highest peak in the nilgiris. You can see some breathtaking views. You can also do trekking.

There are two telescopes inside that you can look for the captivating view of the valley.

Tamilnadu Tourism Ooty Boat House

It was artificially constructed just for the fishing purpose but now it is the popular tourist attraction.

Boating in it is the main attraction here.

Thunder World Dinauser Theme Park

Kamaraj Sagar Dam

This dam is a good picnic spot in ooty.

This place is ideal to come and relax to admire the scenic beauty of the waterfall and greenery around.

Day 3

Mudumalai National Park, Masinagudi

This place has good resorts to stay at. Enjoy the beauty of this place. Masinagudi is a small village.

You will definitely enjoy the journey ride. On the way you will see animals like deers, elephants etc.

The Mudumalai National Park is located in the border of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Mudumalai Wildlife Safari is a feast for Nature and wildlife lovers

A must place for a true nature lover.

Charges: Rs. 15.0 per person for Entry. Rs 135 per person for jeep safari.

Day 4

Emerald Lake Back Waters

This place is not much crowded. Here you can see the blue water of emerald.

Lush greenery and slopes that are nice to look at.

Timings: 9 AM to 6 PM

Charges: No entry fee.

How to reach Avalanche Forest Reserve (Avalanche Lake), Upper Bhavani Lake View Point?

If you are a nature lover, then this place is a must visit. Be an early bird to visit here.

You’ll find the surroundings to be in lush greenery and more vibrant due to blooming flowers.

private vehicles are allowed only till the check post of Avalanche Lake i.e Avalanche Forest Reserve.

After reaching Avalanche Forest Reserve, you will find one check post where u have to pay 30 rupees per car as entree fee. you will have to leave your vehicles here.

The safari ride here is the crowd catcher. You need 2~3 hours if you want to do safari

To go to the Avalanche lake, you have to take safari ride (2hrs safari which covers 3-4 places).

You will visit cauliflower shola , bhavani amman temple, upper bhavani lake view point.

Cauliflower shola is very unique forest. Upper Bhavani lake view point is mesmerizing. It is a must visit to take breathtaking photos.

As they have limited number of jeeps, you need to reach here as early as possible may be around 9am.

They charge 200 Rs per head. it's very scenic and good for taking photographs in Avalanche Lake.

Timings: 8 AM to 6 PM

Charges: Bus will cost you 200/- per person, whereas a jeep will cost you 250/- per person.

Day 5

Visit Baralikadu

When you are returning back to Coimbatore, you will find popular tourist attraction ‘Baralikadu’. It is 45 kms from Mettupalayam. You should try visiting once.

Best part is coracle ride. The river will be smooth and food from tribal people will be very delicious.

Baralikadu ecotourism package costs ₹ 500 for adults and ₹ 400 for children (aged below 13)

The package includes a lunch (vegetarian/ non-vegetarian) prepared by tribal women and a bath in Athikadavu River.
